Motivation

Antoine de Saint-Exupery said, "If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.” Motivation is a powerful thing. But most of us forget that it is simple, like a daily chore, like eating or bathing. It must be done regularly. It is a constant longing for a milestone or a better way to get there, and once there, to set yourself another one.

Why should anyone learn? What is the value of education? Should training be elective or mandatory at workplaces? How will the outcome of learning through training be measured for business? These are compelling and thought provoking questions that have several and conflicting answers, none of which may be presumed to be the absolute truth. Aristotle said that "All men by nature desire knowledge". This is an absolute truth. Humans have evolved precisely due to a function of their curious minds, gathering knowledge, enhancing skills, becoming competent and thus the dominant world species.
